Father Jerry Strange is from Glasgow, KY, a small community near Mammoth Cave National Park. His father was in the military (National Guard) for 40 years and passed to glory in 2000. Father's mother is still with us and served as a manager of a school cafeteria. Father is the 2nd oldest of 6 brothers and sisters; he is only 2nd by minutes since the next oldest is his identical twin, who lives in Louisville. The rest of Father's lives around Glasgow and Bowling Green, KY.
Fr. Jerry received a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Louisville and a master’s degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. His working career started as a professional musician for 5 years but later turned to education. Fr. Jerry taught music in the Nelson Co. (KY) schools and the Caverna Independent School District (near Mammoth Cave) for a total of 18 years and grade levels ranged from pre-school to high school.
Father attended Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans and was ordained as a late vocation at the age of 55 after distinctly hearing his vocation call. Fr. Jerry has served in many parishes over the last 6 years, including Our Lady of the Lake, St. Edwards, Christ the King, St. Pius X, Assumption and most recently, St. Stephen’s Catholic Community.
Father was married before becoming a priest and has one daughter, who lives in Bowling Green, KY and one grandson, who is 3 years old. His hobbies include gardening and fishing and is known to be very fast and to have very short homilies. Father promises to work hard at slowing down but requests everyone's patience on this! He has never heard a complaint about his homily length, though!
Fr. Jerry looks forward to serving here at Saint Ann Catholic Church.
