Spanish
Bienvenidos al español. Welcome to Spanish.
Our exploration of Spanish begins in kindergarten and progresses throughout your child's journey here. In lower school we commence with the simple and oral of kindergarten to the challenging oral, and written of 4th grade. In between we tackle and add on vocabulary, culture, symbols, art, music, literature, and grammar.
Spanish in the upper school expands upon the knowledge gained in lower school. We continue our study of the different geographic areas of the Spanish-speaking world through research projects encompassing an oral and power point presentation as well as a written report (grades 6-8). Writing and conversation in Spanish are also gradually expanded from grades 5-8 culminating with paragraph writing in multiple tenses in the 8th grade.
As always, we will be exploring new countries through videos, photographs, both children’s and adult literature, music and many other surprising things along the way. Please feel free to e-mail me at tbertrand@stannnash.org any time you have a question or concern.
Sincerely,
Theresa Bertrand
Homework and Toturing
Each class (1-8) has a Spanish book and/or workbook. Most, but not all, homework is assigned from the workbook. Students in grades 3-8 know this, but please remind them that homework is graded for both completion and accuracy. Homework is an extension of what we have covered in class and is an integral part in the learning process. If it is not taken seriously, not only is your child’s grade jeopardized, but his/her learning can be stymied.
If your child is having a problem in my class, please tell him/her that tutoring is available here after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I have several students available as peer tutors, and I will be here as well to clarify anything that might be confusing.
Websites
There are several websites available to help students with material or activities that we do in class. www.quia.com/pages/saintannspanish.html is a site with many types of games that reinforce vocabulary, grammar, and culture. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the activities, you will find several other links that offer both activities and helpful information for parents. Another wonderful site is www.spanishspanish.com. It teaches children vocabulary by using pictures and pronouncing each Spanish word correctly. I have had very positive feedback from parents and students on the games and activities on both of these sites.

Classroom Rules
Always be prepared for class.
Do your best quality work.
Never laugh at anyone trying to speak Spanish. That is how we learn.
Prayers
Padre Nuestro
Padre nuestro,
que estás en el cielo.
Santificado sea tu nombre.
Venga tu reino.
