Students are given a fair amount of classwork.

  1. Morning work consists of math, language arts, and writing warm-up drills.
  2. Workbook pages are practice sheets on what we are covering in the different subject areas.
  3. Independent Work Folders (IWF) are distributed to the students on Mondays and should be completed (at school) by Friday.  These are tailored to the student based on their reading groups and provide additional spelling, reading, and language arts practice.  IWFs should be completed in order to participate in Friday Fun Day.

We have snack mid-morning to get an energy burst that should last until lunch.  Please try and provide a nutritious snack (i.e. fruit, granola bars, carrots, etc.) for your child.  I discourage sharing food with other students simply because of various food allergies, so it would be helpful if all students have their own snack.

I love birthdays!  If you choose to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, you may bring in a treat for the class to share during snack time.  Cupcakes and cookies work best simply because no cutting is involved and they can be distributed easily.

For those students whose birthday falls in the summer, we can set aside a day in May to be your child’s school birthday, if you wish.  Just let me know.

kid on field tripField Trips:

I think that field trips greatly enhance the curriculum, and I’d love to go on several.  Of course, this cannot be done without your help.  If you are interested in being a driver or a chaperone or would like to help me by being my Field Trip Coordinator, I would GREATLY appreciate it!  There are lots of great educational places in the area that would be so fun to visit, so let’s all work together to make it possible!

Tutoring/Enrichment:

If you are interested, I plan on beginning (free!) before-school tutoring on Tuesdays (for reading) and Thursdays (for math) at 7:00 am.  Please let me know if this works for you.

Once tutoring is underway, I will be adding enrichment (i.e. more challenging activities) for those who might benefit from this.
