When the new breezeway project be completed?
The plan is
for the breezeway to be completed by 15 October. The new
structure will be both beautiful and functional; we can now walk to
any building without getting rained on! The VAST amount of the
construction cost is being covered by a grant secured by Father
Breen.
Don't worry - we're all as anxious as you are to go back to the
previous procedure for drop-off and pick-up! However the
sacrifices we make now will be WELL work it in a few short weeks.

Explain the new schedule
This year
we've introduced a number of schedule changes that are designed to
continue our tradition of ongoing improvement to our school program.
We have added one hour per week to the school day by eliminating the
2pm dismissal on Wednesdays. This means our faculty meetings
finish one hour later; special thanks go to our faculty who are will
to make this sacrifice in order to improve the education offered at
St. Ann. When they leave after the Wednesday Faculty Meetings,
they still have papers to grade and curricular planning to do when
they get home - we have great teachers!
Additionally, we've increased our Spanish Language instruction from
2 days per week to 4 days per week. Research is clear that
increased frequency equated into improved second language
proficiency.
Lastly we've grouped three specials as a way to improve continuity
and cross-curricular integration. Drama, Music, and Art are
each clustered into 6 week blocks. Your student will have one
of the three each of the 6 week rotations. Let me be clear;
this does not equate into any less class time, only a restructuring
designed to improve instruction.

What are the goals for the upcoming school year?
As you may
know, we are a goal driven school. The success of this program
can be seen in the ongoing improvements made each year. These
goals come from our Strategic Plan and are continually updated. Check out the
2007-08 goals to see what we'll be
doing this year.

An Upper School question. What is the difference between a
"homework slip" and a "materials slip"?
Homework/Materials slip are the
same in that on the slip students are to check whether the
slip is for homework or materials. If the student is
missing materials such as their book, pens, or notebooks we
call they receive a "materials slip". When they are
missing anything to do with their homework, we just call
them "homework slips". I can see how that might be
confusing to our 5th graders!

What is a DAC Form/Sports Health Form?
The DAC
Form (known also as a Sports Health Form), is a diocesan-required
health form which is completed by your child's physician and signed
by a parent annually. As per diocesan policy, no child may
practice or compete without the completed form on file. You
can access this form from the Diocesans Athletic Council's website
at
http://www.nashvilledac.com/healthform.html.
