Optional Enrichment Activities for Art

Mimic A Masterpiece  (K-8)

Students visit an art museum (local or any vacation destination) and choose a favorite work.  Write/tell about the piece  (title/artist/subject/why it was chosen) and then in the style of the artist, create an original work to share.  Work should show time, effort, and creative thought.  K-1 may dictate to parents---but, please, no help with the art!  Not limited to any specific color tools; may be two or three dimensional. 

Create An Art Lesson (3-8)

Research an artist who interests you and think of a project that could be done with students to teach them about the artist’s style and method.  Complete the project yourself as a sample for your students.  Ask yourself:  Would this be a doable project for my class?  How many art classes would it take to complete the project?  What materials are needed?  Would it be possible to display the work for visitors to enjoy?

Note:  Students who complete the optional artwork may bring it to art class during their visual art cycle to share with Mrs. Herrmann and classmates.  Who knows---maybe your art lesson will inspire a real project with your class!
