Mrs. Coode’s Academic Essentials

Want to make a wonderful grade on homework?

Follow these easy steps!

1.     Make sure your paper is properly headed.

2.     Answer all questions in complete sentences, restating the question, and in cursive.

3.     Answer your questions with as much information as possible-sometimes it might take a paragraph!

4.     Complete your homework every day and turn it in on time. (This makes up 10% of your grade!).

5.     When homework is assigned write it in your planner, its not an option

6.     Be as organized as possible.

7.     Remember: neat and complete.

8.      Learn from your mistakes and move on.

9.     Do your best, even when you don’t feel like it.

10.  Think about this: Do I want to have it handed back to do again?

You can do it if you choose to do it! Make a good choice!

 Grading System

Student grades are determined using the following percentages:

Tests/Projects:  70%

Homework:  30%

The homework grade is based on completion of assignments. If a student does not have a homework assignment on the due date, he/she may turn it in at the next class meeting for ½ credit. A slip will be sent home in the next Tuesday folder for missing or incomplete assignments.

All text books are published by Prentice Hall and are online at: http://www.phschool.com/atschool/txtbk_res_ss.html

Homework:

Homework instills student responsibility, develops independent study skills, and furthers academic growth. The following paragraphs state the homework policy of the fifth grade.

1. Each student will keep and use an official St. Ann planner. The assignments should be checked off as they are completed. Every assignment must be noted in the assignment notebook or the word "NONE" must be used to indicate no assignment.

2. Assignments in all subject areas may be given daily. Long-range assignments and/or projects may be assigned in Religion, Reading, English, Global Studies, and Science. Each child is responsible for completing assignments on time whether they are finished in class or at home. Homework should be completed in approximately an hour to an hour and a half. If a child consistently takes longer to complete homework, a parent should contact the teacher.

3. Students who have been ill will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete make-up work based on individual circumstances.

4. If an emergency should keep the child from completing work at home, parents are asked to write a note to the teacher involved which would allow a one day extension.

5. Parents will be notified of all late/absent assignments in the Tuesday folder. The signed homework slip is to be returned in the Tuesday folder. It is the student's responsibility to present the completed late homework to the teacher on the next school day for half credit.

6. Handwriting and neatness of papers is to be stressed in all assigned work. Grades will be withheld until rewritten to meet pre-set standards. Rewriting of a messy paper may be assigned as homework.

Mrs. Coode’s Fundamentals

Behavior

  1. When responding to an adult you must say “Yes ma’am” or “No sir.” Just nodding your head or answering in any other way is unacceptable.
  1. Always say thank you when you are given something.
  1. Make eye contact when someone is speaking to you.
  1. During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions and ideas.
  1. When you cough, sneeze or burp, it is appropriate to turn your head away from others and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. Afterward, you should say, “Excuse me.”
  1. Do not smack your lips, roll your eyes or make other faces that show disrespect.
  1. When offered something, take only your fair share.
  1. If anyone is bullying you, let me know.
  1. If you win, do not brag; if you lose, do not show anger.
  1. No matter what the circumstance always be honest.
